Yesterday was a Members' day and Paula kindly lead a workshop on paper shoe making!
It looks as if it was a busy day with superb results.

Earlier this month we were lucky enough to have renowned fibre artist Valerie Wartelle come and talk to us about her work.
Brought up in France, she came to the UK to study Textile Design, specialising in knitwear. After graduating she worked in the fashion industry for many years. When a friend introduced her to wet felting she loved the technique and started experimenting with the process. She discovered that slowing the felting process down enabled her to have more control over the finished product. She incorporates pieces of silk fabric, fibres, threads and screen-printing into her work. The landscape wall pieces that she creates are beautiful.
She also runs workshops on felt making which I hope to attend sometime in the future.

We had a fun Members’ afternoon at our January meeting. It was decided that we should all “Rise to the Challenge” and get more members involved in the Regional challenges. One competition is entitled “A flower beginning with “G”
Some members demonstrated the techniques of stencilling and geli printing onto fabric. There were also lots of books and images for reference. Some chose just to experiment with techniques whilst others started planning their finished pieces.
So hopefully there will be lots of entries from the Harrogate branch at the regional day later this year!

Apologies for the delay in updating the blog. We had a lovely Christmas get together last month. Lovely food, great company and some fantastic competition entries. The challenge was to create a decorated glove and there were some amazing entries.
