Dionne Swift

Dionne Swift (often referred to as the “Devoré Lady”) came to Harrogate last week to talk to us about her career as a textile artist. She brought lots of beautiful samples of her work which she passed around so we could all have a closer look.
Dionne told us how both her grandmothers had influenced her by teaching her how to sew and how to improvise by adapting knitted or smocked garments.  Having studied at Goldsmiths she went on to lecturing, setting up a studio and exhibiting.
Few people manage to earn a living from their creativity but Dionne’s enthusiasm about her work and her drive to succeed impressed us. Her new work involves printing with collographs onto thick felt with the addition of hand stitches.

Christmas Past

Do you remember the Christmas Party when we all had a go at making peg dolls?  I remember the drunken santa the most. Do you recognise your creation amongst these?

Wishing all members of the Harrogate Branch
a very Happy New Year in 2012.
