Exhibition Photos

Although we were slightly disappointed about the number of visitors to the exhibition, those who came left lovely comments about the exhibition.

From Print to Stitch

Catherine Howard gave a fantastic workshop today involving paint, print and stitch. We spent the morning creating a picture using collage, mark making and crumpled glossy magazines. Once we were satisfied, Catherine photographed our work and then printed it onto fabric. The afternoon was then spent adding stitched detail to the pieces. Although we were all using the same techniques I’m sure you will agree that each piece is unique.
I look forward to seeing the finished pieces in our exhibition in September!

Regional Day

Several members attended Regional day earlier this month (apologies for not blogging sooner) and we had a very enjoyable day. There were two very different speakers but both were entertaining and informative. George Hook told his very personal story about being the last man in Birmingham to make mother of pearl buttons. Lucy Adlington took us through the history of the Great War using women's clothing to tell her stories.

The standard of the competition entries was as high as ever and there were some really lovely pieces on display. Two of our member had success with the competitions. Jackie Gregory got a highly commended for her entry into “A flower beginning with D” and Irene Earl came second in the Coats Anchor Award on the theme of "Anchors Aweigh", and received a box of threads donated by Coats Anchor.

Fully Booked

Unfortunately our May speaker cancelled last minute but Harrogate member, Irene Earl, stepped in to talk about the many books she has made over the years. She brought over 50 books varying from simple books covers, sketch books, altered books and books made from scratch.

Irene also showed examples of travelling journals and we hope that members will get involved in starting some new travelling journals. Members’ day in June will concentrate on creating journals so remember to bring an A5 sketchbooks and basic sewing kit.
