Last meeting we were lucky to have
renowned textile artist Alysn Midgelow-Marsden as our speaker, especially as
she now lives in New Zealand (thank goodness we didn’t agree to pay travel
costs!)
Her talk was called - Beyond babies,
beetroots and Bunsen burners!
The Beetroot part refers to the Gallery
she set up called the Beetroot Gallery. As for the Bunsen burners, Alysn trained
in science before going into textiles and still uses heat guns in her work.
She is well known for her exciting and
innovative techniques using metal fabrics. She talked about the different
techniques she uses and what influences her work. She brought wonderful samples
of her work to see.
Alysn has exhibited as a solo artist at
the Knit and Stich Show in the past but this year she has brought a group of
New Zealand Contemporary Textile Artists’ work for everyone to see.
